This Is It - Michael Jackson 15 Years, 8 Months ago
Dear Michael seems to have forgotten to write a tune for this - it's simply a repeated line again and again (1991 offcut abandoned from album).

Dreadful. Sony trying to grab money again.

If it was unreleased back then, it was unreleased for a reason.

He'll be spinning - or moonwalking - in his grave.

I just heard the track via michaeljackson.com and my first impression is that I like it. There are examples over the decades of songs being shelved and then eventually released after a rethink. I'm sure that if his record label didn't realease any new/previously unreleased tracks then they'd be criticised for not allowing fans access to that music, and so whatever they do at this time they'll be condemned for. It's not hsi best song but it's a long way from being his worst. I'd be happy to have it in my library.

It is typical of the miserable state of the record industry that nobody at Sony Music had the slightest idea / did care about when / where / and with whom the track was recorded. Or that the song was already released, in 1993 as "I Never Heard" by Safire. Or that the song was co-written by Paul Anka. Who is laughing all the way to the bank ...

You're right DJ; just another example of the total creative collapse of the majors.

It's fairly pleasant and holds my attention for the first quarter of the song, after which I slightly lose interest but might hum along carelessly to it in the background.

I'm quite certain that the executors of the estate have the legal obligation under the law to maximize the outcome of the estate. Unless MJ had exact stipulations regarding not releasing recordings that may be found/or exist, then this is going to happen. So it may not be Sony. Not that they are objecting to making money.

Another example of fine print to be aware of for artists and songwriters.

For all the claims of a new model, you guys are still dinosaurs and still in the clutches of the "hit" model.

Sony have played a blinder here. It is all about the body of work, building a relationship and maintaining interest in the artist. The song does NOT have to be great or a hit.

As for me I love the track. I love 99% of what Michael does musicwise even the so called dud tracks. Get over yourselves.

The new model is relationship driven.

Michael's body of work was always fabulous and always going to be boosted by his death (as they said when Elvis died - "great career move") but Sony are doing it so wrong it makes me flinch.

As for the new model - nobody has gotten close yet. We all know it's needed, we all know the majors are doomed but nobody has yet worked out a viable alternative.

Though www.VilePervert.com is a pretty good start.

I actually quite like the track, altho with modern technology they could have 'cleaned up' Jackson's vocal a bit- it is clearly a demo vocal.
