Some totally new names to me in this week's chart. Highest new entry comes from the Lovebugs at 10 with "21st Century Man". It's quite pleasant but also quite average. There's much stronger stuff in the chart but maybe it'll grow on me.

David Six at 14 has a wonderful arty song with a wonderful arty title. It's very poetic and unusual enough to keep my interest. "The Sender never shows her Eyes". I love it.

Alessi's Ark at 16 shows a lot of promise. A slice of Folk which possibly needs the right mood to be appreciated fully.

Stricken City at 19. Nice intro, and a track that plods along in a fairly acceptable manner. It didn't set my world on fire, but it's not a bad track at all.

The we have Sir Cliff Richard at 20, sneaking in with one of his lesser hits from the 70s, but in my opinion one of his best songs ever, "Hey Mr Dream Maker". I just grabbed my Guiness book and saw that this only reached No.31 in 1976.

Mik Artistic's Jimmy Saville song remains at the top, while Kamloops climbs seven to 7.

Yes, that is one of my all time favourite Cliff songs, along with Carrie and Miss You Nights.

I agree with CARRIE. Watched the CLIFF met PIERS the other day and it was a fantastic programme. Good to see CLIFF looking so well and so full of life. I did not like his stuff with the Shadows - but I love his stuff with Alan Tarney - some of the best pop music ever made - and Louis Walsh agrees !!

From 1978 - Some People : Cliff made some of the best pop of the 80s. Up there with Duran and Spandau. He was the original ELECTRO KID - and the music press is basically "cutting him out" - for being a Christian I reckon because it is so uncool in New Labour PC land to have any beliefs except Greed.

Cliff is certainly under-rated, though I'd say his early 80's golden spell was only 78-82... with I'm No Hero being one of the greatest pop albums of all time IMHO. After 82 he sporadically released some great singles, solid albums but also some dross. Once we get into the 90's his quality really waned.
There are many under-rated Cliff singles from the 60's - the singles he did with the Shadows between 63 & 67 in the main - though there were many big-selling but ultimately awful insipid ballads (Wind Me Up (Let Me Go) for instance). My favourite Cliff song from the 60's is probably The Next Time - fantastic smoky production, quite advanced for early 63.
