Last night I put on my headphones and listened to The Very Best of Slade at full blast. So many great songs and such a fun and lively attitude to music which is lacking in the mainstream today.

I remember seeing a debate on the 70s once and Jk slagged off the 70s as being crap and Noddy Holder disagreed

I have been enjoying the double CD of their early work ( prior to the hit singles ) which features the great track "the shape of things to come"

I also love the film "Slade in Flame" which I also have on DVD. It is gritty and real and has some aweome songs in it - Far Far Away - How Does it Feel etc which are quite different from the big hit singles ( which were great fun ) My fave of the hit singles is Coz I love You with that superb violin part in it.

The best band of the 70s in my opinion.

I think JK was being tongue in cheek in that debate, and playing devils advocate to keep the discussion rolling. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong on that.

1970s music was rich, varied and great fun. It was a decade the like of which we'll never see again, and I'm not simply talking of the fashions or fads. There was so much crammed into it, and so many things which grew out from it, everything that has followed has been a pale imitation. Most of the criticism of the 70s comes from those who never experienced it and have only glanced at the superficial.

Yes, the 70s was influenced by the previous decades, but it was like we reached a pinnacle and have been sliding downhill ever since.

Interesting that most modern hits draw on sounds from the 70s or earlier, either samples, styles or covers.
