The show would have had some credibility if the hour had been done by Beverley Knight - the only good singer. From miming Saturdays to weak flat performances and a rather funny Close to You by Dionne Warwick (especially the repeated ending) the tribute was a disgrace. To be fair Jamie Cullum was ok but he is just not my cup of tea but his duet was with Kimberley Walsh - a lovely looking girl but that's about it.
The only vocalist to have even come close to matching the quality of Karen Carpenter was the girl who sang 'Please Mar Postman' on a 1974 'Top of the Pops Vol. 42' LP. Most covers on those albums were awful, but she really did sound like Karen.
Unfortunately I'll probably never know who she was.
