TOPIC: Susan Boyle on X Factor

Susan Boyle on X Factor 15 Years, 8 Months ago
Average voice, rather plain woman, little or no charisma, adequate interpretation of average Stones ballad... did very little for me. Dear Simon - great on marketing, lousy ears. Twas always so.

Nothing average about her voice and to many, an inspired choice of cover/song, so we won't agree there.

Amazon today report that is the highest pre-order album in their history.

Absolutely no star appeal and sadly that will finish her career faster than a moonlight dip in quicklime. A good face and figure for radio...

I was very impressed with Susan's first audition at BGT. Then the experts messed about with her and she became shaky but, all credit to her, she recovered from the initial shock of their interference and came back with this amazing interpretation of Wild Horses. Originally I thought her voice was limited to powerful west end style musical numbers but this shows that she's capable of the more gentle ballads too. It makes me wonder what her actual range can be, and I conjured an image in my mind of her doing Great Balls of Fire. I bet she could too.

I didn't see X Factor, so can't comment her performance on that show. I did, however, see her on American Idol and must say she deservedly brought the house down.

Not at all average - and if allowed to be herself she has plenty of character.

But what a great story! She always looks so uncomfortable during interviews. I do hope she manages to keep her sanity throughout all this attention. It doesn't sit well with me. Bless her.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said Susan Boyle was on course for first-day sales of nearly 150,000 copies in Britain, including online pre-orders.

"HMV is now revising significantly its estimate for the total weekly sales upward from the 300,000 that we initially projected to a figure closer to 400,000," Castaldo said.

Pretty passionate comments one way and the other on my site (3rd most-watched page after the meaning of Mika's "Grace Kelly").

Impressive start; should it have been a contender in Record of the Year? Every year we try to anticipate genuine December hits (as opposed to charity/X Factor etc)...

Vote please www.ROTY.tv

Poker Face currently ahead of Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon.

The single "Wild Horses" has only just scraped into the Top 10 today, so, as RoY is based on singles not albums, I'm not sure it would be RoY. Now, if you did Album of the Year, that's a different matter. (Actually, have I just come up with a new concept? - How do I register it JK?)

Very impressed with this song. Her voice is superb and emotive - hence the connection with people who will buy her records. Like Eva Cassidy there is the "X factor" about her vocal performance which hits home.

Susan Boyle will be the biggest seller in the World with this album. She is talented and quality sells in the album market.

There will always be records made for people who don't like music.
G4 was a good example.
Susan Boyle is another.

Also I hate to agree with tacky tabloid Mirror but I think she's mad - I mean clinically insane.

JK, Isn't that offensive towards people with learning difficulties? Obviously the stigma lives on. Shame really.

Not at all; many people with learning disabilities are completely sane. And many without are also barking mad.

From when she was first on BGT, I have thought of Subo as a timebomb - I think her behaviour can be strange or manic at any time. I don't think it will do her mental state any good at all to get all this attention but then again, as long as it makes certain people lots of money! On her singing, she seems to go at one pace and I don't think she is able to sing any faster - am I right?
