The truly great producer (the Phil Spector of the UK at the time) once produced me and he did get his BASS DRUM sound by standing in his bath and stamping on the wooden floorboards in front of an ancient old BBC microphone wrapped in grey foam rubber!

Excellent! I allways hoped that one was true.
He must have been the first true home recording producer.
Can you imagine what he would have thought of the changes that were to come?
One of the producers I work with, swears by taking the entire hard drive out of the studio, and mixing at home, if he has overdubbed a bath, it is not to my knowledge.
"Telstar" was number one the day I was born, and it is engrained in my brain forever.

Joe produced Tom's Columbia singles "Little lonely one" and "Lonely Joe" along with the B sides plus a few others' They were recorded under the then name of 'Tommy Scott and the Senators" in 1964 but all rejected by record companies and he went back home to Wales. He was then to be subsequently discovered in concert, in merthyr Tydfyl by Gordon Mills. The RGM stuff was then put out by Columbia to cash in on his Decca success.

What did you record with Joe Meek, JK ? I remember seeing you on the Joe Meek BBC Arena documentary some years ago.

I've heard some fantastic tales about Joe from various sources, usually recording artists. Gunilla Thorn, the Swedish Marilyn Manson of the 60s, was left upstairs in the recording studio for several hours, while Joe went downstairs for "business". After deciding she didn't want to starve to death, she made her way down the stairs to find him. Unfortunately rickety stairs and extremely high heeled boots got in the way of each other and she fell down to the hallway below. As she tried to rise, she realised she had banged her head against the door to the front room which opened to find Joe and one of his more successful artists in a rather compromising permission.

Yup, he recorded anyone he fancied.
