Congratulations Susan Boyle... and BR 15 Years, 6 Months ago
Credit where due (and BR does go on a bit) he correctly predicted Susan's huge popularity the moment he first heard her.
Have to admit I can't quite see it myself but good luck to her and, again, I repeat my comment - the British music industry today consists of just two people, one of whom is Simon Cowell.
Mind you, looking at the list of recent biggest sellers... Leona, HearSay, Robson & Jerome... only Arctic Monkeys were real music people.
My theory on SuBo is - many have never heard great songs and even when sung by an average singer, great songs provide great sales.

A real positive success story - and I know that some readers think I am negative ( which I dont believe I am - just realistic )
Thanks for remembering JK.
For me singers are always about "communicating" the emotion of the song. Cliff may not have had the greatest voice but he did that. Susan Boyle seems to have both.
Earlier in the year I tipped Charlotte Wakefield for big things ( She was the lead in West End show Spring Awakening ) you may have seen her in HOLBY CITY where she has a main part now - and she also appears in WATERLOO ROAD this month. Her ability is the same - an ability to communicate a song at an emotional level ( she also has great technique ) but whereas Susan Boyle is in her 40s Charlotte is about 19 years old I think !
I enjoy celebrating real success - and Susan Boyle has shown this - and I agree that Simon Cowell has done a fantastic job to harness the interest in her and produce such a great album.

I think you would have loved Spring Awakening JK - it attacks hypocrisy full on and explores teenage awakening in a very clever way ( after all the play was written over 100 years ago - timeless truths )
Easily the best West End musical of the last 15 - 20 years with a musical score which stands on its own merits as well. Sunk by the worst recession of the last 80 years - real shame.
