The Christmas no. 1 will be whatever crap x-factor release this year. I don't think its even open for discussion, every instantly forgettible song that has been written for the winner has been number 1 at xmas for about the last 6 years running I think.

Anyhow, since TOTP finished most people aren't even aware of what is no. 1.

Oh Robbie how very end of discussion-ish.

I think there is still some significance in being the Christmas No.1, just not as much as there used to be. There are still quite a few people tune into the Christmas TOTP and the No.1 song will take pride of place on that show. It's probably the only No.1 song of the entire year that many people are aware of.

Two guys are trying to organise a viral campaign to get Rage Against the Machine as n° 1 at Christmas.

Totally agree - "Must Be Santa"'s a great record with a brilliant video. I'm old enough to remember Tommy Steele's version!

the wife of a friend of mine had a hit with Day Trip To Bangor 30 years ago (she has recorded with Fairport Convention etc since) and they have made a new Xmas record.

I thought it was cheesy at first, but it is actually a really good feelgood xmas song

It is cheesy! But that shouldn't stop it from being played.
