Fuck is a perfectly acceptable English word 15 Years, 7 Months ago
It crops up so much in every day conversation that there is no need at all to be squeamish about it.
The BBC should grow up and recognise this fact. Apart from that, an excellent video montage for it on Top of the Pops which was a pretty decent Christmas show.
I think in 2010 I shall create the child of Top of the Pops for global TV. After all, I was the first ever booking for the first London based show in 1965 and in every decade since then - apart from this one.

In Nan#s Christmas Carol last night - a young "nan" at about 9 years old let fly with a string of expletives including the F word. It was in context and very very funny.........

What's meant by in context? It's an old Saxon word for sexual intercourse, so unless it's being used in that context I guess it's out of context. I never use it myself, but that's mostly out of respect for others. Some don't mind but there are always those who do, plus there are a host of other words which can be used instead. We have a rich language. I think the F word is a lazy substitute for better English.
I remember when I was in the Risley TV room and we were watching a movie about a girl country singer. She used the F word once towards the end and it made these real tough guys (who used it repeatedly) to recoil in horror. Afterwards it was the talk of the wing. Most said that it spoiled what had been a really gentle piece of escapism and it didn't suit the character. It was as though the director had suddenly realised they hadn't included any bad language even though they were entitled to and so shoved the F word in for the sake of it.

And the best record of 2009? Lily Allen's Fuck You. Arguably the best record of the decade? James Blunt's You're Fucking Beautiful. Let's make 2010 the year for rehabilitating Fuck. And imagine how much better Joe's record would have been if he'd mentioned what a hard Fucking Climb it was to beat Rage Against The Fucking Machine to the Christmas Fucking Number One?
I've tried without too much success to bring Buggering back into the mainstream. Now let's try for Fuck.
