SOUND OF 2010 : The real Top 3 15 Years, 5 Months ago
The BBC have decided by committee to vote a sound of 2010 this year. Very insipid list dominated by their friends in the major labels rather than musical talent.
Here is my top 3. None of them on major labels but all with a new album out.
1. MINUS IQ
I listen to the drivel that the majors have signed thinking it is cool electro 80s. I expect they will sign this band soon - but until then enjoy their debut album "Home Cinema" - which is rocking 80s sounds reminiscent of a car crash between OMD and Duran Duran. It helps the band are young great looking lads who pack out venues around the UK with screaming girls.
Easily superior to every single band mentioned by the "worthy" BBC.
2. THE WHYBIRDS
Much tipped on here - and I am delighted to say their second album does not disappoint. Eliot Mozer ( Neil Young etc producer ) loves this band and considers them the best UK rock band and I dont disagree. Wonderful guitar based songs with delicious hooks and harmonies. Once marketed properly they will give Kings of Leon a run for their money worldwide.
3. GARETH ICKE
Dont think that this guy is just a wannabe. His debut album has gained airplay right accross the UK and is now gaining support in the USA and Europe. "It gets worse at night" is a very tidy indie release which shows off Gareth's voice and songs and is produced by Art Brut/Snow Patrol collaborator Dan Swift. Again like the above 2 acts there are major labels in tow - but like the above 2 acts Gareth has individuality and did not attend the Brit School and does not hang out with scenesters at the BBC.
So there you have it. Check out their albums on I TUNES worldwide and enjoy. Real songs - brilliant songwriting and musicianship - the best producers.
