Isn't the real big story this week the Glee Cast songs. A new music show that each week will make available for downkload all the tracks featured on the programme as recorded by the cast members.
Not sure of the exact numbers but I think seven of these songs made the Top 100 in the mid weeks this week. Not big absolute numbers but remember this is only being shown on cable TV.
It's nice to see another approach to marketing music on TV without using the reality/competition format.
Any comments?

The Glee cast thing is totally brilliant and goes to show guys labels need to open up a TV division.
Heck we already have music videos but we certainly need more guaranteed exposure. Perhaps the advertising/infomercial
sponsored by XYZ is the way forward. The status quo is fine but you are at the mercy of the music video shows
and with no TOTP, no Bubble Hits these options are shrinking.

One more option is the Facebook Group revolution and I know many on here poo poo the chances of it running again
but I totally disagree. The biggest issue running a campaign like this is committing to advertising on the internet
but perhaps we need a coalition of record labels to create a specific site for this purpose. Oh you can recoup
your costs while marketing. Add the right songs of course and you have a hit.

Guaranteed Marketing is the name of the game! Glee & Cowell have proved it works on both a grand scale and also
smaller. This is exciting for those of us who saw this coming and invested in making TV. Small but wonderful.

Yes I've said for ages we need terrestrial TV combined with internet and iTunes.

In 2010 hopefully that will be Pop-I.

I'll have to google this Glee cast thing because I have no idea what it is, or anything about the TV show.

Ah, Small But Perfectly Informed tells me...

Keidran Jones, better known by his stage name Iyaz, is a Virgin Islander singer and rapper. He was born into a musical family and grew up on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.[1] His song "Replay" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009.[2] In December 2009 "Replay" peaked at #1 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart.[2] It also reached #1 on theUK Singles Chart on January 10, 2010.
Iyaz studied digital recording in college and recorded music. Island Girls found radio success in the Caribbean.[1] Sean Kingston found Iyaz through his MySpacepage back in 2008. When Iyaz first saw the messages from Sean Kingston in his MySpace inbox he didn't believe it was really him and ignored the messages. But after receiving three more messages, Iyaz thought he'd better respond [3] and later signed a recording contract with Time Is Money/Beluga Heights, a record label owned by Warner Bros. Records. Sean Kingston introduced him to producer J.R. Rotem. "Replay" was released as his first single.[1]

I love GLEE. Fantastic TV. High School Musical for adults.

The vocalists are hot !! and the arrangements class.

I dont mind admitting it - but I am downloading the music each week if I like it.

This week "Rachel" did an amazing version of an R&B track which was superb.

The Journey cover is fantastic - as is the video for it - the wheelchair Guitarist is amazing.

It pokes fun at the school system in the USA in a very sweet way.

Every Monday on E4 at 9p.m - catch up with it on the demand player ( 2 episodes so far )

Well worth the time and lots of fun.

Are these Glee songs all cheesy cover versions or do they do anything original?

It sounds a bit like the awfully misguided final season of Fame.

Re. Glee - no, they're all "cheesy cover versions" (to use your expression) but don't be too put off, they're from a wide range of sources (60's, 70's, 80's, Broadway, R & B, rock, singer-songwriters etc.) and there's something for everyone. I've seen all 13 episodes to date (twice!) and it's a great show, funny, clever, sharp, but ultimately feelgood, that's what everyone's buying into, and the cast sold a LOT of downloads when it was shown in the US last year.

A comparison with the first series of FAME is actually a good one. This is a feel good series with covers that are in my view BETTER than the orginals. They are very classy.

The dance routine for Amy Winehouses Rehab in episode one was fantastic as well.

This is very enjoyable TV.

I saw 'Glee' on TV last night. It was watchable but not really for me. Not sure I'd compare it to any series of 'Fame', especially the first which had many good original songs. I couldn't compare it to High School Musical either because I never saw any of those.

Selling lots of downloads doesn't really prove quality, just popularity (as per the Crazy Frog).

Maybe I'm just starting to get old.

I saw something called Glee last week (I think Thursday). I saw it listed as a new series and so tuned in to see what it was. It was a double episode but I only stayed for part of one. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just didn't suit my mood at the time.

If it's repeated Sunday afternoon then maybe I'll give it another go. if I'm in the mood.

The first play episode is each monday at 9p.m on E4.
