Must be sales figures.
Or heralding the "commercialisation of indie" in that he's the Godfather of todays Landfill Indie scene as his dilute Oasis was a license to print money at the turn of the MILL-EN-I-UM

He ought to have won an "Outstanding contribution to gurning" award, maybe that will be next.....

Having said that, I love the Rudebox album.

Leave Robbie alone. He is a national treasure.

He is as talented as any X Factor finalist / winner.

I Hope Mr Blobby is recognised at some point by the Brits in the future as well.
( and strike a blow for all pink obese and spotty people in the world )

He can sing and he does a great interview. I'd take him over many of the others I see these days.

You'd be better off with a new car than an old banger, Mike; besides, it's failed its MOT.

I've been searching for a new car, but nothing on the market excites me much. And when something that looks good comes along, the big cororations go and put lots of chrome and shiny bits on it, when I preferred it in pre-showroom condition.

No, I'll stick to my old tried and tested banger. I think there's a few more miles in it yet!

One thing Robbie Williams cannot be accused of is being "outstandingly talentless"
Even if you don't like his music or don't like the man there is no denying he had a talent for making music that the British public wanted to buy over an extended period of time.

Unlike some other artists he started his solo career with a handicap. Don't forget when he left Take That he was not taken seriously by the media and most of the press he received was quite negative.

I actually believe Robbie has a lot of talent as a performer and entertainer. With the number of concert tickets and CD's sold I don't think I'm alone. To believe all of what Robbie has achieved could be done without talent is quite ludicrous.

You're right of course BB and Robbie has got loads of charisma, which is talent of a sort, and charm. It's musical talent he lacks. And he's actually quite sweet if you catch him in the right mood, or when he attached himself to me like a puppy to a leg for hours at Glastonbury all those years ago.

I cannot and will not exude the sheer agony I feel when I hear that Angels song. It's akin to listening to X Factor contestants being slowly strangled.

...and Britain's Got Talent is about to return soon.

I really like some of his stuff. I can take or leave much of it. But I could really do without hearing Angels or Let Me Enetertain You ever again - too much exposure to late 90's braindead Local Independant Radio stations like Viking & Lincs has forced me to despise those 2 songs.
I do think he's been emotionally exploited over the years though, none more so than when he was hyper-successful circa 1998-2001. A lot of his songs were basically whinging which spoiled it for me. How excellent that he brought out Rudebox for his own satisfaction, and even more so that it was great.
He's probably one of those guys who is actually really cool once you peel away the layers of celebrity bollocks, and for that reason I feel he shouldn't be courting the likes of Cowell & the X-Factor just to shift units - he should just get on making the music he wants to make (with or without Take That).

Robbie's a star and a great performer. Period! ..and didn't the Spice Girls get this award previously.

I think this award is just about bringing attention to the British music industry, which both have done.

Maybe they should change the name of it, as the current name evokes lifetime achievement, which is kind of ridiculous for acts that are ten to fifteen years old.
