I liked SOUNDS and then RECORD MIRROR ( which ended up as a section in Melody Maker in the late 90s and then disappeared completely just before Melody Maker disappeared in its glossy format )
But JK is right.
I think X FACTOR is the only real place where music is being created - and perhaps the BRIT school. Get into either and you have a small chance of major label success. Outside of these two there is no chance of big success. That is the reality - and many new bands and unsigned acts realise this.

Actually, Record Mirror merged into Music Week. Sounds just closed when United Newspapers sold most of it's Music Magazine interests to EMAP
