sounded like The Killers - "I'm obsessed with the mess that's living"... Marina and the Diamonds - splendid stuff. Hollywood. On Warners I gather.

I see it's at No18 on the new chart; dropping 6 places from last week.

Something is not right.

Maybe it's just that not enough other people share your liking for the track, JK.

Something not right? Could it be that last week there were 17 records selling better than Marina, yet the week before there were only 11?

Also, Warners may have been giving it lots of promotion, holding back pre-sales etc in week 1, which couldn't be repeated in week 2.

I'm rarely wrong so, if a track fails to behave as expected, I assume it's either the system or the label that is at fault. Since I've never heard that track before I reckon today's labels are not good at reaching the majority (like me) as opposed to the minority (in at 12; drop to 18).

Your reckoning is spot on, in my opinion. Lots of instore PAs and activity that attacted the minority in week one, but not enough activity in week 2 to either sustain the minority or cross it over to the majority. Assuming that's the job of the record company, (which, I assume, like me, you do), then the record company has failed - or is in the process of failing.

On saying that, perhaps they are in it for the long haul, and the next single will be a smash - and/or the album sell bucket loads.

You are right JK>

Great track and as usual it disappears.....what is that all about ?

The chart is dominated by kids buying black R&B stuff from the video channels and TV shows like GLEE>

The TV is in control.

And another reason it died - awful awful awful video.

Listen first without looking (great) then watch (urgh).

God music execs these days are clueless. As illustrated by last night's Shits.

Incidentally John Reid - current Warners boss - tells me he loves the video. Horses for courses!

It's only OK, that's why it's only done OK. Her changeable accent is not OK. If she doesn't want to be mistaken for Catherine Zeta-Jones she should stop presenting herself in a similar way.

Just because you like it JK doesn't mean everyone else will.
