The BBC does a superb lob of finding the numerous stupid (often Nigerian - why?) cons getting money and donations for Haiti. But how about the cleverer scans like boosting flagging circulations and reputations by pretending to raise money for Haiti whilst actually claiming credit for being noble and fine and charitable?
Much harder to expose. And braver to risk doing so.
This morning I had three emails asking me to confirm my account which I don't have with Bank America; one from the FBI telling me that after a thorough investigation I was entitled to claim the $8 million I'd won on a lottery which I'd not entered; one telling me I was the main beneficiary in the will of a man I'd never heard of, and one telling me I had to pay for an ebay item which I'd not bought because I do not even have an ebay account.
