that I haven't heard 75% of the top 20 and don't like those I have heard.
I suspect this is indeed age creeping up on me combined with the lack of truly populist, mass appeal radio, no TV series showcasing the best in music anymore (Top of the Pops was a great weekly way to catch up on chart hits) and the lack of quality in the music produced - with wankers like Nick Raphael in charge and leaders like Lucian Grainge preferring dinner with Winner to actually finding talent.

The old executives like Doug Morris, Clive Davis, Sir Edward Lewis - all loved music for their entire lives. The new ones are simply trying to save survivors in lifeboats.

I'm 37 and feel the same....
The problem is there are 3 main 'tv feeds' for popular music - The 'Britains Got X-Factor Cowell' element, trendy (but actually very generic and stale) 'T4' - and the 30-odd music channels that play the same tracks hour after hour - and none have the ecleticism of a TOTP.
Everything is so programmed and compartmentalized, and that is the problem

I've been thinking similarly for quite a while. Whenever the 'Bring back TOTP' arguments resume I'm not convinced it's more than nostalgia, but I DO feel sad that the charts largely pass me by these days. I wonder if a pop music version of 'TV Burp' would help - in other words, don't keep trying to treat the charts with the same drama and respect that they used to attract when far more of the output really mattered, but cover it in a playfully irreverent way. At least that would draw back in the over-thirties, whilst - perhaps - dragging some of the more deluded 'artistes' back down to earth. I don't mean this as THE format for covering chart music, but just as one angle that might be covered for a broad audience.
