I assume Sony has the Billy Joel single re-released 15 Years, 2 Months ago
and the Greatest Hits album ready for repush when She's Always A Woman explodes due to the current John Lewis advert campaign.
Ged wouldn't miss a trick like this, would he?

I notice the actual version used is a Guillemots recording but the Joel original would be a No1 if Ged knew what he was doing.

The single doesn't need "re-releasing" in the brave new world of digital downloads-it is always available . And to prove it , it has entered the Singles chart at No 29.
No promotion or marketing were used...

Let me rephrase it - "repromotion". Especially to radio and as a Greatest Hits CD (to Waitrose, Tesco and others).

I get the point, but Waitrose no longer sell CDs. I just don't understand where the Woolworths CD market went, what with WHSmiths also pulling out of audio on the high street. It just leaves Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons and HMV! (plus a handful of indies).
