Not bad; the problem with Going Back is that Dusty's incredible voice (arguably the best British female vocalist ever) had such pathos and soul that Phil's beautiful, spot-on (I've never known anyone more accurate at hitting the notes) vocal doesn't come close.
I was returning from holiday last year, selected a random Dusty CD and this came on; it made me cry.
Heard some of the tracks. Is it not pointless to have his voice on top of a carbon copy of the original arrangement? It is no different from the original. In for a penny eh Phil?
Atlantic kindly sent me the CD but sad to say it's awful. Phil has a great voice but he's tried to copy all the original arrangements and it's just like karaoke.
A shame - with a great producer and totally different approach to each song, it could have been wonderful.
Why cover Dusty songs? Nobody can ever improve on her vocals - only a completely original interpretation would work.
Truly disappointing.
I've no desire to listen to his new album, but I thought the track-listing looked fantastic. So, could somebody please put together an CD of all the original versions of the songs he's covered. (I know, I could download them all, but I still prefer CD - especially for listening in the car!).
Genesis and early Phil Collins solo stuff were superb.....
Shame he has fallen so low.....
Perhaps he should get hammered - drive his car into Snappy Snaps and look for a spell in Prison to help get his creative juices going again ( I have it on good authority from Daily Mail readers that this is what will happen to GM - so why not Phil ? )
Plus that JK chap got a very good musical out of his Prison experience called VILE PERVERT - so it does seem to work as a strategy for creativity !!
