Top Of The Pops 14 Years, 9 Months ago
Some TOTP links featuring intros without the music
The first one you will never ever see shown on any channel
for obvious reasons.

Gary Glitter - 07/12/95

2nd one is John Peel's last edition when he was surprised
by Michael Aspel at the end.

What makes the demise of TOTP so sad is the in the mid-90's - the "Ric Blaxhill Years" - the show was as good as it had ever been, and I think these clips show that. It had "lost it" betweem approximately 1986 & 1990, and then there was awful "reinvention" when they ditched the dj's for some cut-price "new faces" between 91 & 94 (though that era still had some memorable performances), but Ric Blaxill managed to recapture the magic for the mid-90's with a great format (helped of course by a cracking chart scene at that time).

Any TOTP fans should check this out

Glitters performance is painful. Coupled with all the clips it could be a pastiche.

Angel, this is what TOTP also was. It wasn't all classic songwriting and Pan's People. There was also lots of fun dross like GG.

The point about Glitter the media are desperate to sweep under the carpet is it is they who were responsible for Gary Glitter being "someone" other than an old glam rock star who made a succession of great records in a 2 year span 25 years before he went to PC World. If it wasn't for the great British Tabloids promoting "come-back"s for 20 years he would have been a footnote, and nobody would care less if Top Of The Pops repeated a show with him on, and he wouldn't have been presenting in the 90s. Of course it is precisely because he "owed them" as to why McKenzie, Bushell & co have had him pursued around the globe, and there would be no ridiculous censorship on almost 40 year old pop records.

I agree Chris. Just thought his performance of an otherwise great pop tune was rubbish.
