Brits disaster - Joseph speaks 14 Years, 7 Months ago
David Joseph, the new Brits Chairman, not having much to do at Universal (those music corporations are doing so well that heading them is no more than a part time job) has decreed that The Brits will have an overhaul - albums will be the new singles (wrong - albums are rightly dying; singles are booming) and artistes are "the single most valuable part of our industry" (wrong - songwriters, producers, pluggers, merchandisers, tour organisers, secretaries and tea boys all outrank the figureheads).

So - more disasters then? It's moved from awful Earl's Court to ghastly O2 Arena (more moneymoneymoney).

Good luck to them I say.

My own remedy? It's a TV show - make it great TV.

I find these boards and JK fascinating - possibly even more interesting since his persecution. Not only is he not prepared to shut up and go away but he's even more intelligent and his profile has actually grown. There is a serious buzz about him inspired by his millions of You Tube views and accounts. Keep it up (I'm in America).

The Brits gets worse every year. Enough said. Cant believe it is still being shown on the main TV channels. It will end up on some obscure cable channel within 5 years without a proper revamp.

It should be run on X FACTOR lines with weekly votes by the public for at least the Best Artist and Best Album and Best Single award - eliminating each week in a 30 minute show - leading up to an announcement on the night - having gained money for charity each week for say 5 weeks.

At the moment it is a back slapping exercise for the Major Labels to advertise their product and the public are really excluded from the voting and the show itself is stale and lacks any excitement.

From being essential it has become tired and needs a new format. The public like to vote and build up to a finale - this is how TV is run these days and the BRITS needs to come into the 21st Century.

Worst of all the songs themselves are not as strong as in the past - so once again there needs to be a compelling format to support this.

It does not have to ape the X-Factor but just needs to be more interesting and less stuffy.
There should be an online category and an unsigned category. THis will breath
life into it and the unsigned category can be voted online. This can mirror the X Factor.
Gee is it that hard to come up with something good ?
