Interesting chart discrepancies 14 Years, 7 Months ago
between the official OCC chart and the iTunes chart.
On iTunes JLS is No1 (not yet "officially" released Children In Bloody Need song) with Take That No2 (benefit from last night's X Factor) where the OCC chart has Rihanna at 1 and Take That at 2.
Your Song by Ellie Goulding (the TV ad version of the Elton song) is No4 on iTunes - nowhere (not "released"?) on OCC.
Black Eye Peas is 6 on iTunes but only in at 11 on OCC.
Shayne Ward's awful "comeback" is a No12 entry on OCC (hyped by Sony?) where it isn't even Top 20 on iTunes.
And that stupid 2 minutes silence gimmick is 20 on OCC but not Top 30 on iTunes.
Yet we're told iTunes is now 95% of singles sales.

What's going on?
Not sure which chart you're using, but Your Song by Ellie Goulding is 39 in the OCC Chart. OCC chart uses more than just ITunes data to compile its charts and even if ITunes are 95%, that still leaves 5% from other retailers. When comparing charts, don't forget to consider all factors. For example we know the OCC is compiled over 7 days Sunday to Saturday. Do you know the criteria for ITunes' chart? I suspect it's time period is much shorter than 7 days, and, as it's job is to encourage sales, gives more importance to very recent transactions.

I think Dixie is right: The iTunes chart is based on an much shorter time span (24h?). And there are (or at least there used to be) all kinds of rules for the "Official" Charts which ensure that some sales are more important than others.

Personally I think this is a pretty clever idea. Not only is it one of the best charity releases of all time but also two of the best minutes of Radio Ones' output.
