And how could you call 'Hippy Hippy Shake' a Beatles song?

I suppose it might have worked if they chose some of (by TV chav standards) the slightly lesser known songs (e.g. 'Here, There and Everywhere,' 'If I Needed Someone,' 'I Will,' 'If I Fell,' 'For No One,' 'Good Day Sunshine' or 'And Your Bird Can Sing'), which are still glorious, but they insist on choosing the most over-played 'muzak to my ears' stuff. There's just no point when the singers are that mediocre. At least give them the benefit of some unfamilarity.

You couldn't call 'Hippy Hippy Shake' a Beatles song...because it wasn't one - and neither was 'Imagine'...

Imagine isn't a Beatles song either.

I thought the song choice was really predictable and boring. With the exception of Katie's version of HELP!, (which was the best song of the night), all the others were straight versions of the originals, or in Mary's case, a version of Shirley Bassey's cover. I was at least expecting one of the girls to cover Siouxsie's version of Dear Prudence. Also, what about "She Said" - My favourite Beatles song?

Lazy menotoing in my opinion. I think the judges just chose songs off the Red and the Blue albums, and added a couple of non-Beatles songs for good measure.

One Direction will win - by default now, though.

Not default Dixie - by clever manipulation of teen and pre teen females spending their parents' money.

I'd have to dig a bit, but I seem to remember lots of versions of "Norwegian Wood".

No, hang on. Here they are: www.emusic.com/search.html?mode=x&QT=norwegian+wood

i thought it was an absolutely ghastly idea( as I watched it by proxy on ITV)

You are right-very few performers have been able to top the Beatles with their own songs.

Couldn't be more true JK!

Do you think the kids on X-Factor and AI, have any idea that the Beatles put in 20,000 or something hours onstage over 8 years to get that good, before they went on Ed Sullivan?

This is the divide right there. This unawareness of the work necessary is why there are so few young MUSICIANS, and the ones that are real like me and my brethren, are a little too old or have had our day, so we write the songs and make the kids sound good on the backs of our thousands of hours of work put in getting good or better than good.

Kind of funny that roundabout!

I was disappointed that nobody covered "Revolution 9".

And GG - the world has changed. Instant gratification thanks to the Internet means instant satisfaction with work; So, instead of "I must improve this and polish it up and make it great" it's "finished now - onto the next". I know this because it's always been my problem, long before the Internet!

So we're down to the last 5.

Next week, Mary and Cher will go. Both have been in the bottom "save me" stage once each in the last two weeks. that leaves a Matt, Rebecca, One Direction final. I'm calling One Direction to win. Who will be second/third is harder to guess, but I'll go Matt 2nd, Rebecca 3rd.

Any other thoughts?

Not quite sure what you mean here JK. Was it your problem to release things
too early or were you one to tweak and tweak and tweak

Sadly J&B, I released things far too early and frequently should have tweaked more.
