A great analysis by Wayne Rosso of the desaster which happened while Rolf Schmidt-Holtz was asleep at the wheel.

"In the final analysis it all boils down to the same old story—a fable of corporate record industry hubris run amok. All that’s missing is the cocaine and hookers. Ah, the good old days. But in a strange way it’s kind of comforting to know that some things just never change."

What is really nuts is that there hasn't been a MASSIVE act out of this label in a very long time, and that is just ludicrous. As I've posted elsewhere, there are too many cooks in the kitchen and no one knows how to cook.

This great heritage brand that is responsible for developing so many of the greatest acts ever, reduced to back catalog.

I could have run Columbia Records better than Rick Rubin.

Theres no hunger for great music and breaking great acts. The hunger Amhet had, and Herb and Jerry.

I've had plenty of dealings with Columbia Records over the last ten years that have just left me scratching my head. They're more interested in planning the Grammy Party, and decorating the Headquarters, than in breaking great organic acts that can sell. (and I'm not talking about boutique hipster nonsense either)

One of the worst business decisions one can make these days is to start a label, and I'll tell you something......... this nonsense makes me want to start one tomorrow!
