TOPIC: Susan Boyle on BBC Brekkie

Susan Boyle on BBC Brekkie 14 Years, 6 Months ago
Strange little pudding of a woman; almost incomprehensible with her Scottish accent; no charisma whatsoever; nervous; shy; adequate voice - someone who should never have been famous.

We do need to work on cherishing talent without forcing fame.

Watching the presenters interviewing her it was like witnessing a challenged child. Not comfortable.

All true, but the big question is whether a charismatic, articulate, confident, thin woman with the same voice would have had the same world-wide mega-success SuBo has had in the last 18 months...

... and we all know the answer to that is a big "No." The very reason the world stood up and took notice of her was because of these very same negative attributes, which gave her adequate voice a context that was basically irresistable to a huge number of people.

Doesn't make her any less uncomfortable to watch, though...

I saw the "interview" and I agree with all your comments except your conclusion that she is "someone who should never have been famous" She wants the fame and success and even when asked in the interview for her wish, she said it was that her career had longevity.

I do hope she is handled correctly as she does appear very vulnerable and I'm not sure she is equipped to handle the media scrutiny she'll continue to be under. There have already been a lot of strange behaviour incidents so the warning signs are there so nobody can be surprised if they are repeated at a more intense level.

The above having been said, hats off to Simon and the team for producing the numbers they have. There may have been some luck and a lot of internet help but having a follow up album perform so well and doing it both sides of the Atlantic is not an easy achievement.

One other interesting fact about the interview. It was filmed yesterday and what was shown were the highlights. It was obviously identified that she couldn't be trusted to do a live segment

I agree 100% that a charismatic, articulate, confident, thin woman with the same voice would not have had the same world-wide mega-success SuBo has had in the last 18 months.
but...
as anyone who has worked in the biz knows being dealt a good hand is one thing but knowing how to play it is were the skill and talent is needed. I think Simon and his team played a great hand in continuing the Susan Boyle success story.

I think too many people underestimate how hard it is to get a sucessful follow up album after a runaway debut hit. Just ask Duffy!

I suspect a tinge of sour grapes here. Subo is an excellent celeb and a true star.
If she were a skinny blonde stunner she would be all over the net with some bearded
fellow eating her out (Kesha anyone ?).

No sour grapes here J&B; just sadness about the danger and inappropriateness of thrusting celebrity upon someone not psychologically prepared for it - and why should she be?

I can't but wish that Mary Byrne had been on BGT and had won instead of subo.
Mary has a tremendous voice but obviously not an x-factor voice....
