TOPIC: Sir Simon Cowell

Sir Simon Cowell 14 Years, 6 Months ago
I've heard it will happen in the New Years list. It will probably divide opinion on this board but I for one think its well deserved. I hate the music the man produces but Simon has never been about critical praise. His objective has always been making sales and the knighthood could be awarded for his contribution to business and exports without considering any of the media stuff. Unfortunately I think his charity work at the beginning of this year, Everybody Hurts single will be cited as the reason which is wrong (about 20/30 hours of work at most). Interestingly he has never been given an OBE or MBE

I've been offered Knighthoods many times and always turn them down; won't settle for anything less than Monarchy.
Simon's gong will be for being my Bail Bond in 2000.

If we're going to have knighthoods, then it's well deserved. He works hard, and has been responsible for exporting his X-Factor and ....Got Talant concept worldwide. Good for him. Let it snow...

He's hardly been round long enough (as far as the general public are concerned !)

Although we in the business have know Simon for decades the vast majority of the public had never even heard of him till Popstars, had they?

I agree with ITK ( a first ?)...I do not think Simon deserves any award at this stage.

If he got one it would completely diminish the entire idea of gongs and mean they are beholden to cheap tabloid and TV razz matazz.

In another 10 years...yes. But I love what he does.

The honours list make me want to puke. Always the wrong folk receiving with the odd lolipop lady thrown in to show how "ordinary" folk are decent too. Giving Cowell a gong is a good story.

A knighthood? What the smurf for? No disrespect, but isn't that cheapening the idea even more than when The Beatles became OBEs? He's an astute businessman and has done great things for TV. But a knighthood?

Cowell definitely doesn't deserve a Knighthood, all he has done has ruined popular music in this country by hogging the charts with banal crap like Gareth Gates and Shane Ward. Only a very small amount of people have benefitted from his work, with himself been the prime benefactor. His only objective is to make money and gain power. There is nothing original about any of the music that comes out of ex-factor and the very few reasonable artists that have come from it (girls aloud, Alexandra Burke) would have made it anyway. Giving Cowell a knighthood would be like giving the owner of Burger King a Knighthood. Remember this is the man that gave us hits from Mr Blobby, Robson and Jermone, and Wonderdog, please don't encourage him.

I piss on his grave if he get's a Knighthood for fuck all. I love to see Steve Davis get one he could of been my Dad if my real Mother didn't leave him in the early 70's.

Didn't happen, did it. So, we can still refer to him as "Simon" for another year!
