Great idea; publishing remains the one solid gold area and Simon's paternal links to EMI would be a huge incentive for him.

EMI Music Publishing is at least two billion pounds worth (more than the complete EMI Group). Has Cowell enough money to enter an auction? Or is the speculation about him and all the other potential buyers (Sony/ATV) just part of the tug of war between Terra Firma & Citigroup?

Why is Thomas H Lee trying to get out (this is the reason behind the plans for a sale of the WMG) when the future of the music industry is as bright as KKR seems to believe?

"publishing remains the one solid gold area"

Solid gold compared to recorded music. But with falling cd sales & digital stagnation & the end of the computer games boom & the state of the film industry (see here A new model for Film Music) & the over supply of music related tv shows I don't see much potential for growth.

I bumped into my old friend Max Hole on Saturday and he was fascinated by these rumours and clearly logs onto the Tipsheet regularly.

There is nothing wrong with Philip Green. He has a fantastic business employing hundreds of people. He gives VERY generiously to a number of charities. His wife, who lives in Monaco, is a partner in the business, and she rightly doesn't pay UK tax on her dividends. Nothing illegal in that. It's no different to people investing in ISAs, or pensions. Everyone has the right to minimise their tax - as long as what they do is legal.

I'd be delighted if Simon bought EMI and so would be his wonderful Mum.

dixie is obviously Tina Green.

You make me sick defending such an odious bigoted man with extremely underhand business practices. You're obviously one of his cronies.

Roger Faxon is delighted:
"The recapitalization of EMI by Citi is an extremely positive step for the company. It has given us one of the most robust balance sheets in the industry with a modest level of debt and substantial liquidity. With that solid footing, we are confident in our ability to drive our business forward."

With that solid footing the EMI Group is an attractive take-over-target. Will KKR (with Bertelsmann) buy the whole company?
