TOPIC: Very interesting chart this week

Very interesting chart this week 14 Years, 4 Months ago
Illustrating the power of TV - even though The Brits had tiny ratings they were enough to inspire massive Adele (and other) downloads.

Not that we're surprised. We've watched The X Factor too.

But it also shows how tiny is the current promotional impact of the Internet compared to traditional media - for now.

TV is today's Egton House. The Internet is the group of pluggers who used to try to get inside and get a hearing.

What !!!!!!!!!!!

JK you normally write good stuff but on this you are totally wrong. Totally wrong.
TV has a great impact on downloads because of one reason

Tv = NO INSTANT GRATIFICATION

Once you watch it on TV, you can't rewind or replay. HOWEVER you go online and search for it
and then you buy it. Last time I checked you use Google or Itunes search on the internet.

Now your argument has a lot of holes in it. The number one hole is attributing the spike in
download purely to TV. The internet is the conduit to download sales.

The second hole in your article is not comparing like with like.
You are comparing Adele's (an established act) performance at the Brits with an unsigned and
non-established acts. Perhaps if you measured the 348,133,504 million views of Bad Romance
you'd arrive at a more truer picture.

So next time you try to measure the impact of internet promotion please use more accurate methods
instead of guessing.

I tend to agree with J&B. The Brits was NOT tiny viewing, just not as many as previous years. But as David Joseph stated, the show wasn't about just chasing ratings. For David's first year, he made some bold changes, that he should be given credit for. Also, as I read somewhere, Channel 4 usually get about a million or so viewers in that time slot, but got many millions due to a good final episode of a surprising hit show. (And C4 didn't get the viewers just because the Brits was on "the other side").

I'd like to think this year's Brits was the start of a new David Joseph era, that, now he's got his first one behind him, he can start being even more adventurous. Perhaps so adventurous to have JK as a consultant? (Sorry, I've gone into fantasy land, I'd better stop there!)

Not unless you record it first. We are talking about at the time of broadcast.

I'd have another check of some recent systems if I were you. There's probably a demonstration somewhere on YouTube.
