I remember when...... 14 Years, 4 Months ago
We were all excited that the old model was dying, that the industry would become a better place with real talent and decent music.

Ah... those were the days!

Indeed Kev, change has certainly happened since back then, but no settled state in sight.

I still hear the same thing coming from the film community.

And I point you at www.VilePervert.com where a certain 96 minute feature movie can be watched for free or downloaded in full for later viewing and has had over 58,000 full length visits so far.

So where can money be made to pay for the costs?

On iTunes as tracks get bought; merchandising of T shirts, posters etc; screenings in large screen cinemas; spin offs; if you build it, they will come.

You have the advantage of being successful before the "crash" though JK.

I set-up a website then announce to the world my new album via Facebook and Twitter and guess what happens? Nowt. Radiohead do it and BOOM!

Watching the Brits was depressing, acts with no talent or decent material winning awards. It was as if nothing has changed, the machine still lives.

Yes and that is a fine point. I would suggest that with the abscence of A+R and as much financial backing as there used to be for acts, who are now indie, but would have been "signed", years ago, they must maximise what is best about themselves and sell everything as the product.
