With Nick Gatfield shortly to arrive, and to be re-united with Chris Briggs, the Sony Big Cheeses must be looking for a new direction with the company's global A&R with particular emphasis on what is signed in the UK.
Nick should thrive at UMI and it is interesting to note their focus is now on entrepreneurs , like Simon Gavin , Colin Barlow and Jim Chancellor to name three who are magnets for talent.And are attracting it.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the industry is that dire and bereft of talent. Look what happened with American Idol when Simon Cowell left it - the standard of contestants has shot right up.

SC might be very articulate, and sound like he really knows what he's talking about but I think he ruins the winners by turning them into Xmas No. 1, pappy, fluffy, white and sugary acts.

Not if they sign an act developed by them that can become a sustainable superstar. One that doesn't come from television.
