Manchester and the surrounding areas have a great place in my musical heart - 10cc came from there as well as many friends (like Tony Wilson).

Yes indeed, 10cc's old Strawberry Studios is just up the road from where I live.

And yes, Tony was a huge inspiration and mentor to me. My favourite memory was in Austin Texas when he laid out the reality of the whole music business to me over the biggest BBQ you ever saw.....good times.

I'm sure he's giving them what for in the next dimension!

Luckily I had a fond chat with him before he died.

I still remember the biggest reaction I've ever had - I was one of his first - if not THE first - celebrity interviewee at In The City and at the end of our chat (full house) he asked me "if there's one thing you've learned after all these years in the music industry, what is it?" and I answered "all artistes are cunts".

After a second's silence in which you could hear a pin drop, the entire audience exploded with laughter and gave us a standing ovation!

I was there! And featured in the Q&A you did! In fact I obtained a CD recording of the occasion from those lovey people Dave Mackie's company. (Name escapes me, but they supplied the Tip Sheet CDs too).

Disctronics; fabulous people Dave and Sue - were friends for years.

But seriously , didn't that famous pop bitch Morrissey (ex-Smiths frontman), have a thing or two to say about the people who run the business: that they were corrupt; deceitful; had no artistic instinct and were uncreative?

What you probably meant to say was that all artists behave like spoilt prima donnas.
