Hi, sixteen year old Genesis fan here. Now I don't know how often Mr. King visits his forum here but I would be absolutely delighted if he could answer my inquiry.
There have been many sources that state there are a large plethora of demos and songs that Genesis recorded before and during the From Genesis to Revelation sessions--the full list of them is below--that have remained unreleased over the years. I'm not really inclined in legal knowledge and the like so I'd really like to ask what are the chances of any of the following songs being released?
Early Demo Tape Songs
Place to Call My Own (6 minute version)
Pennsylvania Flickhouse
Don't Want You Back
Listen on Five
Barnaby's Adventure
Fourteen Years Too Long
Lost in a Drawer
From Shapes to Shadows
From the Bottom of a Well
I'm Here!
2:30 Park Time or 2:30 Pinktime (AM PM)
There Was a Movement
Everywhere is Here
Humanity
You Got to be Perfect
Babies
Little Leaf
Chobham Chords
Digby of the Rambling Lake
Masochistic Man
Key to Love
Pacidy
Stranger
Grandma
Jamaica(n) Longboat

Wandering
Wooden Mask
Waterlily

In the Meanwhile
For Genesis to Revelation is largely underrated effort, in my humble opinion. While the playing on this album is somewhat primordial and youthful, Peter Garbriel’s singing is absolutely superb and all the melodies have brilliant resolution. Being a big aficionado of this album, I would certainly love to hear more from Genesis' formative years (beyond the recent archive release) and I’m sure there are other Genesis fans clamoring to hear such relics too.
If you ever plan on reissuing FGtR again in the near future is there any chance you or your company could include any unreleased material such as what is listed above? You can certainly bet I'd garner up some dollars for a purchase!
Hi Jim; we do have many of the early demo tapes but some are not of release quality and others we don't own the rights to; plus I wouldn't want to use them without their permission. We've remained on very good terms with all the members of the band (even those now walking on lemons) and they have been totally supportive and positive - Peter even praised me at his Man of the Year event and we're due to have dinner soon.
I still love the album and believe there are several hit songs on it.
I'm very happy that almost everyone who ever worked with me or for me has stayed in touch and been loyal and true. I like to think I was always constructive, decent, honourable, honest and positive. Judging from the attitude from all my stars in Me Me Me, that continues.
Thanks a bunch for the answer, Mr. King. It certainly gave me a perspective I hadn't considered previously. All I hope now is that those tapes are nicely preserved and safe. And thanks a whole lot for discovering those very talented guys for the world, as they have concieved some of the greatest music in my humble opinion!
