Any comments on this article?

This is what I'm talking about when I say Cowell is in the TV business not the music business.

Cowell is bigger than all his acts. His longest tenured act was Westlife (not from reality TV).

The previous acts get pushed aside as the new crop comes in fresh from massive exposure on the reality TV competition shows, and they will in turn get pushed aside as soon as they are rung dry in a continuing short cycle.

How is this good for music? (Its great for Simon's bank account and all the power to him for good brutal business)Yet

If the goal of the show/s is to truly find a superstar in the real sense, they haven't done it.

And as big as the Susan Boyle numbers are, she isn't Celine Dion is she?

I've said it before; the problem with these quick fix TV shows is that they don't give the performers the chance to develop or learn; and if the A&R is useless (as it is everywhere, let alone at Syco) the acts will die.

But don't worry - most of the best hits ever were one offs. Trouble is - one offs no longer sell, chart or get across the board airplay.

So much pressure to be #1...

‘A credible artist, such as British singer Jessie J — one of the biggest talents around — can have a number three hit in the charts and it is a triumph. But a number three for an X Factor winner is a disaster.’

...and does anybody even care about chart positions anymore?
