He's laid very low since his heart attack, and though he hasn't made any statement about it, all the usual suspects (Tony Visconti, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop) say that if he's making any music, they haven't heard it, and believe that he has now effectively retired... I believe his last live performance was 3 or 4 years ago, singing 3 songs with Arcade Fire at new York's Fashion Rocks event (available on iTunes.)
He's earned a rest, and if I were living in New York and married to one of the most beautiful women in the world, you'd have a hard time getting me out to play, too,

though I do hope he manages to make one final record to "officially" end what I think is the greatest career in the rock era.
