Duncan Ballantyne put in £50,000 for 79% of two young 18 year old kids with crap music but it was exactly the right decision - they will learn and he will make money.

Good luck to all three.

That must be the highest equity percentage of any deal done in the den. But you could see his logic. I thought the investment Theo made in the garden pod was interesting. But I’m think part of the investment was made because of the infectious smile on the face of the girl doing the pitching!

Yes essentially he's started his own label and given the two kids 10% each as employees; a pretty bright way to begin.

...And employees he doesn't even have to pay a salary to! Very smart.

Well, £5000 a year each. Not bad!

It seems a smarter investment than Peter Jones' one in Hamfatter.

I think Hilary Devey should record an album of her own in time for Christmas - a couple of Lotte Lenya and Johnny Cash songs, a cover of Wandering Star, Bette Davis Eyes and maybe a Gracie Fields medley... it would probably chart in these sad Cowell days!

Hilary is magnificent and talks a lot of sense - you're right; with that smokey, croaky deep voice, she'd sell millions.

And what about those daft artists letting two 18 year old kids sell their music for 20% of the profits - or is that normal in the cut throat world of muzak? I didn't even get the impression as a record label, that they had financed the recordings either. What was it they were paying for web hosting - £2.59 per month? And what about plugging and promotion? Did they have proper contracts with their artists? But seriously, was all this going to happen from a desk in one of their bedrooms...

It's not much worse than the deals Epstein cut for The Beatles in the early 60s!

But actually low percentages were the norm; I got 2% for Everyone's Gone To The Moon. Most genuine music artistes are happy just to make and release music and see it break; the greater the greed for cash, the lower the creative juice flow. In my experience.
