We've all seen a story or a dozen like this before. The cloistered world of the record business and someone that thinks they know everything, but doesn't really know anything. We're probably all guilty of it on some topic, but that is a major benchmark fuckup on Morris' part you've got to admit.

This is only part of the story. What did Sony think about Lack's idea?
At the time, Sony wanted to create it's own closed system (based on Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding, ATRAC) and I doubt Sony's hardware division would have agreed to paying royalties for their walkman mp3-players to record companies. Not even to their own Sony Music!
What propably is true is that Jobs flattered / fooled Morris & Iovine, the story is in Isaccson's book p.445ff
