It's looking very strong for Lady GaGa illustrating that FANS vote and lovers of music simply don't.

Adele's track is far better (in my opinion) but essentially a one off novelty hit sinking behind Born This Way.

Yes I know that technically Adele, like Duffy and Amy and other current UK artistes, has had temporary success but it seems we in the UK music industry can find, make and break hits but are incapable of building careers... yes, I know Adele is "still" hot but so was Duffy for 15 minutes.

The difference at present between Duffy and Adele, is that Adele's 2nd album is vastly more successful in sales than her first. The absolute reverse occurred with Duffy and she may struggle to even make a 3rd, which won't obviously be the case with Adele.

Adele had two things going for her. Firstly the quality of the songs on her second album were good, (and arguably better than her first), as was the product. I.e. equally good or superior product. The second thing, was the Record Company. She’s signed to a small company that values every release. The people working there are not just looking for the “next big thing”, but continue to invest in their existing artists. So often at the big labels the excitement and commitment the team put into launching the first album by a signing just isn’t there for the follow-up. I’m generalising, but it is so often the case.
