Oh dear ... Oh well, if it's a choice between manufactured wannabes or off key wig or Alex Day, I'd choose Alex Day too ... if there wasn't so much more on offer.

It's now exploding; radio stations all over the world are playing it (CapitalFM are just about to spin it and tip it as the Xmas No1) - odds are dropping (Blue Boy will doubtless deny this - nobody ever believes me)... Tweets are at a rate of 150 a minute...

I strongly dislike excessive and unjustified cheerleading but as long as the hype stays on the right side of the truth I don't comment. When that truth is bent so much it breaks then yes I'll say something.

JK, To be believed without being questioned requires trust and unfortunately in the area of music promotion I don't always have that trust in what you claim.

BTW - The title of this post should read Forever Yours No 4 on iTunes!

top 40

With only one week to go, theres still no sign of Alex Day in the top 40. He's going to have to make one hell of a leap to get to no.1 by next week.

I think number 4 on the main chart is a better claim but as you are the master of promotion you can choose, all I ever ask is for facts to be correct.

It's not in the top 100 and neither is Millitary Wives for that matter (and please NO ridiculous slurs calling them wives of child killers
or any of that tabloid sensationalist language. JK you really should be ashamed of yourself for doing this especially
as you complain when the red tops do it to you. Do unto others....)

Not sure why these songs are not in the top 100. Perhaps you are looking at a daily chart. Well a week is a long time in politics
so let's see how it goes. Also will you share what you did to achieve this as I doubt it is as a result of a genuine buzz. Smells like
hyping to me but hey if it kicks starts an interest I have no problem with it.

I'm quite confused by the charts. How can Alex be #4 on iTunes but not in the Radio 1 Top 40? Surely the majority of single sales these days are through iTunes?

And how does it work with pre-sales? Surely X-Factor would have released to get all the sales in the last week? If so why are they #1 now? Do pre-sales count in the Radio 1 chart? How about iTunes?

...aaaannndddd what day is the official Christmas #1? I remember Nizlopi claiming it as they were #1 on Christmas morning... So based on that is X-Factor Christmas #1?

It's an hourly chart over one day's sales on iTunes which mounts up - this year's Christmas No1 happens to fall on a Sunday (the day the WEEKLY chart is announced) so the hope is that Alex can build up momentum and snatch the crown away from the other contenders.

At any rate - a No4 for an unsigned (to any major label or publisher) kid who wrote the song himself in his bedroom is a triumph.

Blimey I never thought about that.
But you are right. The Christmas number one should be Little Mix who will Xmas
until the next chart rundown on Christmas EVENING. I reckon one could put money on it at William Hill
and if it is awarded to someone else, sue them as technically you would be right as they would be
number one for 16 hours on Christmas Day and Millitary Wives/Alex Day/WHOEVER would only be number one
for 6 hours on Christmas Day.

So this is the current situation.Mid weeks this morning .

The Miltary Wives , (and lets cut out the truely offensive anti military jibes on this board) have sold 242,000

Alex Day has sold 29,000.

So as regards No 1 , game over , but a good effort to be top 5.

Let's just get this right. As any regular on this board has known for months, this year Christmas Day falls on a Sunday - the new chart day, so the Xmas No1 will be the track that's No1 that day.

Which is why the X Factor winner was never going to be Xmas No1 (ITV/Simon didn't realise the way days fall this year).

So several "contenders" geared up to grab that prestigious title.

And some (not as savvy as others) will have put all their effort into the Sunday sales.

But music is less of a Christmas Gift these days (you can't gift wrap a download). The morons "running" the "music industry", being essentially rich, fat and brain dead, have not - as usual - thought through the consequences.

A late surge on Friday and Saturday might just (about a 1% possibility) snatch the crown on Sunday.

That's our hope.

@The Artful Dodger 242,000 in one week!!!!!!
Surely that must be breaking all records. Mind you it was obvious with the
"Sun" brigade behind it and surely there is a charity angle in it too.

Alex Day at 29,000 has a long way to go but if as JK says there is no major
label behind the scenes then whichever way you look at it the song could be
a watershed moment for independent/DIY artists on the one hand and Youtube
as a promotional channel on the other.

Thanks for the clarification JK and it does seem to be an own goal by Cowell.
You can still gift a song on iTunes JK so I won't write that angle off too
quickly I think the whole Xmas number one battle is crazy but fun.
