If you have the slightest interest in the music industry... 13 Years, 3 Months ago
watch this. Alex's reaction to the many giant offers from major labels and big publishers.
They really are utterly useless, aren't they?
NOT A CLUE are the words that spring to mind.
I predicted, virtually word for word, how the meetings would go and Alex was amazed by how accurate I was.
Anyway, see for yourself and decide whether or not he's right to stay away from the current structure.

Absolutely brilliant !
'We just wanted to meet you' lol - more like they are scratching their heads trying to figure out how successful he's been and wanting to find out why ....

Yes - I said to him before he went to any meetings... "I bet they ask politely to hear more of your music... and won't have bothered to check out your You Tube videos or your online site".
Every single one (and some were very top executives) did that.

That is frightening !
We had a similar thing happen with one our artists (Miss 600) who have had a lot of support from Radio 2 and achieved over 5000 plays on UK radio with their last 2 singles.
We've since had 3 major labels contact us all asking how we actually got onto the Radio 2 playlist in the first place. Unbelievable.
Thanks for the link though - I've posted it on my FB page - the world should listen to what Alex is saying

When I was looking after The Cuban Boys I took them into a major label and the A&R guy said "nice to meet you. Can you tell me what on earth John Peel sees in your music?".
Not a good start when you're trying to sign a band.
I told my friend who was Chairman of the label, who said "right I'm firing him immediately". I said - "no, give him a chance; he'll learn. Anyway he's the son of a member of one of my old biggest bands".

Interesting JK. Considering how often you talk about the experts and gatekeepers and how
artists need the professionals would you now revise this considering that Alex did it all by himself?
A&R people have been clueless for a long time. "Yes we love your music BUT...."
Re:If you have the slightest interest in the music industry... 13 Years, 3 Months ago
No J&B, I think experts are vital and sadly sadly lacking in ability at the moment. Alex only has one person advising him, wisely I hope; but artistes need a big team of positive and talented people around them to fulfil their potential.
99% of the executives in the "old model" are not just useless but negative; they suffocate talent and enthusiasm; they have no backbone, no energy, no ability.

Alex should now try to bring a bit of edge to his songs. I could see him moving into mainstream rock and fronting a band like Iron Maiden - the haircut and T-shirt says it all really!
