We hear rumours that Tesco's Rob Salter, surely the most important physical retailer these days, was at the Brits, but for some reason was not being entertained on one of the tables by any of the Record Companies.

I suspect none of the major labels has even heard of him. Or of Tesco.

Or of music, actually.

And a question for our major label Chairmen (if they can read)... have you ever heard of Kim Bayley?

And one for Wadders... if Adele had been on EMI (when it existed), would the BPI have cut her off in mid speech in order to make way for a tired old indie group (big in the 90s on... I forget which label...)???

A further question - if Richard Russell had been running The Brits, would Damon Allbore have been allowed to follow his rambling speech with 45 minutes of a rather sad caricature/parody of what a young band looked like 20 years ago?

Interesting question. The Brits has always been chaired by a "major record company head". Paul Russell, Rob Dickins, Paul Berger. Paul Conroy,Tony Wadsworth, Lucian Grainge, Ged Doherty and curently David Joseph. How about handing it to an Indie Record Label boss?

If that's too radical, I'll suggest a compromise. Richard Russell with Tony Wadsworth.

Oh no; give dear old Wadders his long overdue gold watch and show him the green green grass of Brook Green retirement home for elderly baldies!

I only suggested Tony in his capacity as BPI Chairman, and to sweeten the pill. They would never give it to Richard, but if it was palatable with Tony as some sort of figure-head, then it might make it palatable.
