Months ago little Joe Taylor tipped me off about this; then the You Tube video started catching fire and going viral.
I can't understand it. I find the video irritating (I don't like people with thin lips and patchy body hair). I don't like the plinky plonky sound of the track. I don't like the tune - it's so one dimensional and sounds like a computer game soundtrack.
The lyric means nothing. Somebody that I used to know? Really? So?
But it's clearly a real hit. Every time the hyped major label priorities knock it off No1, it sits below and then returns to the top of the chart.
120 million views on You Tube. Big sales.
You love it. I don't.
I much prefer the (major label hyped) Emeli Sande hit.
JK you can't be serious!!!!!!!!!!
This is one heck of a tune. Simple, effective, precise. Performed by the enigmatic Gotye who basically does things his own way
and a girl on an upward curve, Kimbra. Surely you can hear the nursery rhyme riff in it (basically the whole world knows this tune).
We are fed up to the back teeth with an endless diet of gimme more, party party, shake yo ass, and all the rest of the nonsense the major labels
throw at us. We want diversity and mavericks, not Gaga clones or Rihanna wannabes. Though in the UK, a&r are obsessed with coookie cutter girls, whether
it is Amy soundalikes, Kate Nash mockney bores and the rest of them. As you note, Gotye's track is a real hit as it is growing regardless of the hype or
lack thereof.
As for the lyrics. Everyone who has broken up with someone can relate to the song and the lyrics touch a chord. Far from being
meaningless they are very relevant. You can tell that I am a fan haha. I loved it as soon as I heard it.
As for Emile Sande, yawn!!
