I saw the second week of The Voice and was disappointed by the amount of mediocre singers they picked. Last nights, top quality singers (including Daniel Walker) were shunned because the judges/mentors had picked all they could. A bit of a flaw in the design IMO.
Also, the last guy who was very good, a fix? They asked him to sing another song.. why? He *just happened* to know that John Legend song which WillIAm had co-written. The band, *just happened* to accompany him perfectly.
Do singers compete for when they go on? 'Cause anyone going on last next year will be pretty hacked off.
Well spotted K; all flaws I also noticed. But new(ish) formats will always have teething problems - my Record of the Year format was killed off eventually by teen fan votes dominating the phones. Had I still been at liberty I would have radically improved the voting system by Year Four - remember I "invented" the phone vote concept (originally on radio to find Eurovision entries)... I'd have involved a vastly larger voting method.
But I think all four Voice judges have proved to be damn good value entertainment-wise (whereas on BGT only Walliams - a great success - and Simon, still good, are worth watching).
The next phases of The Voice could be great.
In a way I wish I'd been a judge - I'd probably have ended this phase having chosen NO acts; that would have been interesting!
When they were advertising it I had to Google Danny as he was the only one I didn't know. The Script's imaginatively named album "The Script" was pretty good so I thought fair-play to him. He comes across well too, modest and seems to be an all round nice bloke.
Will.I.Am doesn't come across bad either, I expected him to be more of a tool(!) He could do with expanding his vocabulary though, saying, "Dope" all the time is as cringe-worthy as Essex nobodies saying "Reem".
It's Jessie J I don't get. I real one hit wonder if there ever was one, "Price Tag" being very "writing by numbers". She looks awful and acts like a spoilt little kid who thinks she's knows it all.. she clearly doesn't. What's the appeal there, why do so many people choose her?
