I thought she was always vocal in denying it. She found God around 1980 ish and maybe tabloid journos couldn't square that with having a big gay audience?
Well she's dead now so let's just celebrate some great records (though I always credited Giorgio Moroder for them rather than Donna - a decent enough session singer but no special voice in my book)... God I'm being negative; apologies!

Although I never liked the Stock Aitken Waterman stuff she did, Pete Waterman said they called her One Take Donna because she could nail anything in one take. She had a remarkable and very powerful voice not at all evident on Love To Love You or I Feel Love. Her recent album Crayons had some great performances on it.
She was a great songwriter too. I'll find someclips to educate you JK
for those who doubt Donna Summer as a vocalist....
Here's a blinding performance of a song she wrote for Rod Stewart but which ended up on her Bad Girls album. She sings it first as she originally wrote it, and then as she ended up recording it. Talented lady, great lungs.
