Seems there were a lot of chart based pop music shows on TV .. apart from TOTP. Me and my friend were on about that last night and were wondering how many ... and how / if has changed the whole make-up of TV.
Here are some of the shows we have heard of ... can you add to the list .. and were they good or bad .. ?
Ready Steady Go
Six Five Special
The Roxy
Marc on Wax
45
Supersonic
Thank Your Lucky Stars; Juke Box Jury; I was on them all PH (well, 65 Special was a bit before my time) but the best of the lot were Entertainment USA and No Limits, both being brushed under the carpet of PC history but with great ratings (No Limits topped the BBC2 chart with almost 6 million weekly viewers).
I recall Mickie Most with Revolver in the late 70's. Then an odd prog in the mid-80's with Max Headroom; also The Chart Show around the same time. There's been other short-lived attempts, long faded in the mists of time (lines)
Shindig and Hullabaloo are two that come to mind from the US...before my time though.
Old Grey Whistle Test? or was that rock ..I believe that was broadcast from what is now the Shepherds Bush Empire (one of my favorite live venues) formally the BBC television theater at Shepherds Bush (I think).
I was on Shindig and Hullaballoo too GG; I believe the TV archives in NYC carry my appearances (once singing Wooly Bully with Leslie Gore and the Ramsay Lewis Trio!).
Great stuff JK, why am I not surprised?. I've been to the TV museum in NY before, lots of great stuff.
If I'm ever back there I'll have to remember to give a look. I love those old shows. Something very innocent about them when the world was a much bigger place.
