I don't get it JK. What do you want the industry to do?
They offered Alex Day a lot of money, the sections of the industry that matter
are writing about him. He was all over the news at Christmas.
Can you explain what you mean by the music industry burying its head. We are part of
the industry and we're not ignoring Alex. Who are you talking about?
I mean the traditional music world; radio don't play his tracks just like they ignored Friday which should have had airplay and are currently (in the UK) ignoring Euphoria (not cool winnng Eurovision).Billboard and Music Week give the new model a nervous nod whilst Forbes, Huffington Post etc do huge spreads. And corporations only offer big money so they can squash it - they don't like the new model at all. TV? Hardly anything (on music - only on "reality" stories).
OK I hear you. Yes I agree Friday should have had lots of airplay as it was a hit despite it being really bad.
I can't believe they are ignoring Euphoria. Mind you this reminds me of the early 90s when dance was big but ignored
by radio on the basis that it was not radio quality or that it was club music. But when it was dominating the charts
they soon changed and then it became all dance. What is needed is some sort of New Model collective or industry with its
own radio and possibly TV? The online press are early adopters so that's why they are very interested. Time will tell
but the new model is here to stay. You wait until the impact of Spotify really bites. Mind you I think I have worked out a streaming
model that actually pays artist the equivalent of their royalties. More on this later.
