The reason why illegal downloading is rife is because it is easy, emotional and the media industries
made a big mistake in packaging products. The CD was the worst invention of the 20th Century as it killed
the emotional connection people had when buying music. It should have been packaged like 7inch records with
a sleeve and booklet which was easy to read. CD players should have been sexier and cool rather than cold
and clinical. When downloads came they did the same thing, stripped downloads of any meaningful data. Mp3
players were geek toys and only when Ipod came did the downloads business turn legal. I hate to say this
but Apple are the only ones capable of making digital goods sexy and worth paying for. Let's wait and see
what happens when they jump on the streaming bandwagon.
Streaming is the future and it can be profitable for artists and labels when the pricing is right and when
the delivery is right. The delivery is working now, streaming to mobile phones is great and mobile phone
particularly the iPhone (APPLE)are used more than radio, TV and computers.
