JK's take on Closing Ceremony 12 Years, 10 Months ago
Not bad but nowhere near as good as the genius opener; why start with singers who cannot sing or perform? Suggs, Damon, Tennant, One Direction - some damn good music but all weak vocalists with little stage presence and then - Ray Davies; brilliant writer, great records, splendid band (Kinks) but his smallest talents always were singing and performing.
Odd music choice - Annie Lennox has far better classics. I loathe whiny Wonderwall (love Don't Look Back In Anger).
Highlight was Eric Idle (just goes to show - novelty is best); Muse terrific; Jessie J is fabulous. Spice Girls great but should just have done Wannabe in full.

Some good moments and the entire show was 100 times better than the Brits over the past 20 years, but all in all pretty good not sensational - as the opener was.

You can't compare the closing ceremony to the opening ceremony, 2 totally different shows.

"Hi Emeli, I've pulled some strings, greased some palms and I've got a gig lined up that will make Emeli Sandé a household name". That's what I think happened Was she flat at the start or is the song mainly on 1-2 notes?

Does anyone else think Muse are on the cusp of being spoof?

Was that Elbow at the beginning, or did I get something wrong? Very, um, tepid singing and song. Must admit that I skipped the rest.

Totally agree on Muse which was why I loved them. Elbow not at start but relentlessly half way; very good but far too much of them.

Far too much of ALL the starters - the music was repeated as the athletes came in.

The band Athlete would have been an obvious booking IMO

One could have made an argument for Dexy's Midnight Runners, too.

It was an OK show, but far, far too long, and with some strange decisions being made - 2 songs for Emili Sande and lots of facetime for Jessie J? George Michael doing one of his least popular tracks and a new song? And how did Russell Brand get in, let alone the Kaiser Chiefs? The mini-showcases for Kate Bush & David Bowie without actually being present also imply they might have been in the running to appear at some point but ducked out, and Annie Lennox's appearance reminded me of the time when (as far as the Brits were concerned) she was the UK's only female singer, nominated for awards every single year, even when she hadn't released anything!
