TOPIC: The Death Of John Lennon
#87571
The Death Of John Lennon 12 Years, 9 Months ago
Watched a documentary , first screened on ITV in 2010 believe (obviously marking the 30th anniversary). Tom Brook recalls how he was first telephoned by our very own JK about the shooting on the night of December 8th 1980 in New York.

Found it all fascinating and for the first time came to understand the complete circumstances of Lennon's death. He was shot in the back four times-something I didn't know-and the killer used hollow point bullets as they were more lethal. Also the Dakota was used for location scenes in my favourite ever film Rosemary's Baby.

Just wondered if JK was in New York on the night and what he recalls of that time.

In the documentary ex-Radio 1 broadcaster Andy Peebles broke down saying 'we'd all been deprived'...I agree with him.

Very moving and without doubt John Lennon was an extraordinary human being.

Yes indeed VTC; I was there and due to have lunch with John on the following Thursday (my apartment was a few blocks from his).

I guessed before it was revealed the victim's name (a horrible premonition) and phoned Tom who has always publicly mentioned that - and continues to do so, despite my slightly changed reputation.

John didn't suffer fools gladly (or at all) - fortunately he never considered me a fool so we never had a cross word (though we did have a few arguments). Highly intelligent, very funny, great company - if he liked you and you liked him - quite appalling to people he didn't like. Read 65 My Life So Far for more.

Thanks for that JK. Incredible premonition. I suppose when you are the biggest star on earth -as he was at that time- it was hard to trust people. Loved him...still do...the lad didn't deserve being shot down like a pig.

Just for the record JK...what did you you argue with him about? Sorry. A little star struck perhaps...before I meeteth my maker. Must be great to have had an argument with John Lennon.

Often when he was stoned and I wasn't (I never was)... our biggest argument was when he said I'd love to be him and I answered no, I was happy being me. After long argument he agreed I was right!
