The first six times I saw the Rolling Stones perform in the deep dark sixties we paid $5 a seat to see them ...and we got way more than we paid for...a couple of excellent opening acts, Patti Labelle, The Coasters to name a few...yesterday a friend of mine in London boasted that he was going to be going to see the new tour and had paid 406 pounds per ticket for 'floor seating' ... you could have scraped me off the floor. My response? "to see a group of old men prance around? you have to be kidding" I have to admit the first new track "Doom and Gloom" is quite wonderful and fresh sounding...but who in the world can possibly want to pay that much to see The Stones? Although I understand the cost of mounting a tour these days it sounds like outright greed...totally over the top and unnecessary ... my first thought was 'what if no one bought tickets? would they lower the prices" but you know people are passing up the rent to go.. Last year in NYC I thought it was absurd to pay $75 for preferred stage seating to see the Kaiser Chiefs, now this ...and we wonder why the music business is in the toilet. Amazing!
