Brilliant song; brilliant video; the first No1 from YouTube? 18 Years, 8 Months ago
Pancakes! by James Provan from Aberdeen; already No3 in Israel radio play charts on downloads alone.
This is the new music biz folks. Welcome to it (and you can bet nobody from a major will even know about it until they log on here on Tuesday after their long weekend off).
He made it on August 7th in his bedroom; put it up on You Tube on August 13th; 1 million views later we picked up on it here at the Tipsheet August 26th; the only place to spot the REAL hits.

It`s also worth pointing out, that when videos were first starting getting tipped here, a lot of the diehards were spouting "eh ? what ? oh no it couldnt possibly!".. etc.
"Pancakes", has caused a stir, but working in this genre , as we do down here, it is not the best DIY video, but the song is daft enough to work, and it`s well edited.
The big ones to watch for me, will be "The Fantastic A+E Line", the album is out this week, again, from a Scottish company, and the band make their own short films, and over the last year have been both liked and hated on here. Let us not forget the "Just Wendy" re-mix by Nathan Jay , including video, I watch it daily.( a hit , but not a number one)
But yes, the first number one broke by video online since Nizlopi, I agree.

re.. tv is dead....
We were just saying that one more Saturday night off when we are not working, and there is nothing on telly...the Sky subscription will be cancelled. I am getting more entertainment out of You Tube than satelite telly.
and re..Steve Tin Duffy, I met him just before "Kiss Me" came out, and he was incredibly excited, does anyone recall his Lilac Time band? "You`ve gotta Love" is a lost classic.
Re: Sometimes you just say it... 18 Years, 8 Months ago
...and you just said it JK.
How many people do you know who "watch TV in the evening" these days? TV used to pull in 20+ million for a big event... Big Brother never got close to that, and it's peaking at 7.
The same is true of the paper press. Once the "voice of the nation" now struggling into single figure millions.
But they all keep patting each other on the back, and saying how great they are. And the government keeps reponding to them as if they mattered.
My parents always said that when they were young they made their own entertainment. I've got a feeling this new generation will be able to say the same thing.
