finding talent ...really what to A&R people do these days.. 12 Years, 6 Months ago
so i had to go , like I do once or twice a week to a well known a studio in Chiswick the the other day... . I decided to take my break there went upstairs to sit down and get a bit of breakfast ...while I was there ..not that I was earwigging but my ears pricked up when I heard the mention of this "amazing "new Irish band called Keywest (they were not my words but the people sitting in very close proximity to me asking where this band have just come out and how come nobody had heard of them and how great they were blah blah blah...well yours truly did interrupt a very well known industry figure who I only found out after , who then claimed to have unearthed them under a rock very recently . well me an average joe soap , with an average job but a music lover...well I stuck my gob into the conversation was able to tell him that I had seen the band 18 months ago playing/busking on the streets of Galway in Ireland while on holidays and that i had tipped them off too a talent/a&r managers who as it turns out, worked for this particular individual ...so basically the reason for my note...It always gets me riled and pissed off when some music people say they have just discovered/found/unearthed talent and try and claim it was all down to them and I have met a few through the job..... to me , anybody with half an ear can tell whether something is good or not...i would like to know what makes a good A&R person...really I see it as a bit of a jump on the bandwagon and taking undue credit when if they were doing their job properly they really would go out , search the streets and find new talent..anyway thats my rant over with !

The fact is that for any label A & R to take interest today with all the deafening hype because of mobile technology, they have to hear about an act from multiple sources that they know to get through the white noise. Not necessarily in PS's case but that's just the way it works.
btw....I'm quite certain I have had breakfast many times at that well known studio in Chiswick.
